Development of
the fight

Every bullfight is controlled by a 'presidente', mostly a high-ranking
civil servant or policeman, appointed by the local authorities and
in charge of the rules and regulations of a bullfight.
The president indicates the trophies won showing handkerchiefs. In
petition of the public his asssistants in the ring the 'alguacilillos'
hand over one ear of the bull (the president shows one white handkerchief);
or both ears (two white handkerchiefs).
By waving their white handkerchiefs the public can ask for a lap of
honor for the dead bull if he was very brave; in agreement the president
will show a blue handkerchief. When the bull put up an extraordinary
honorable fight, the public can ask for the animal's life to be spared,
if the president agrees he shows an orange handkerchief.
